Renting our digital media equipment

Students of communication science/journalism can borrow audio recording devices from the help desk to use in seminars, projects, or final theses.

Please bring your student ID card and official photo ID with you.

The loan period is two weeks, with the possibility of extension. When borrowing equipment, please check that it is complete using the enclosed list, especially for ZOOM devices.

The following items are available for loan:

  • Dictation devices: Compact dictation devices with internal memory and USB connector. Batteries (type AA) are not included.
  • MaxQDA licenses: MaxQDA license valid for 3 months (check below for more detailed information)
  • F4 Transcript (or F5 for Mac users): License and download link (check below for more detailed information)
  • F4 Analysis (Windows or Mac): License and download link (check below for more detailed information)
  • ZOOM recording devices: Professional recording devices, only for members of the Funkstreife
  • [Temporary] Transponder CIP rooms: Only 1 available, can be borrowed for individual weekends

Obtaining temporary licenses

Temporary one-time licenses for F4 Transcript, F4 Analysis, and MaxQDA can be obtained through IfKW, replacing the previous USB sticks with the software. To apply for such a license, the supervisor of the respective thesis or the head of the respective seminar must provide the helpdesk with the name, student ID number, and purpose of the license (thesis or name of the seminar).

The F4 licenses are limited to 31 days and can only be issued once, so the licenses should only be activated when they are actually going to be used.

The website s2playercan also be used for sporadic transcription.

MaxQDA: The same rules apply to MaxQDA; licenses are only issued for theses! Here, too, you must provide us with your name, student ID number, the name of your supervisor or seminar leader, and the purpose of the license.

You will then receive a TAN from us, which you can exchange for a license code at https://www.maxqda.de/maxqda-lizenz-lmu using your campus email address.

A free course license can be requested for courses with a focus on methodology.

There are also 10 licenses available for employees.

Software purchase

No other software licenses can be obtained through IfKW. The LRZ offers information on discounted hardware and software purchases at http://www.lrz.de/info/studenten/.
